Jake Regan’s late pointed free earned Navan O’Mahonys an A FL Division 1 draw with visitors Skryne on Saturday evening.

O’Mahonys ……. 1-10
Skryne …………. 0-13

Having conceded the opening score to Mark Battersby within two minutes of the off, O’Mahonys were playing catch-up, something they eventually achieved in the 57th minute through Brian Dillon.

Battersby’s seventh and final point, from a free close to the left sideline, seemed to have earned Skryne a fourth win of the campaign. However, Regan’s stoppage time effort rescued O’Mahonys.

Defending the Brews Hill End, O’Mahonys trailed by five points on two occasions in the first-half. By the interval, the difference was up to six, 0-2 to 0-8.

David Nelson’s men resumed on the front foot and quickly halved the deficit. A Jake Regan effort from play was the pick of that trio of scores with Damien Moran making the initial fetch and later providing the final pass to O’Mahonys’ full-forward.

Skryne resumed control over the next 15 minutes, leading by five points three times. It might have got better for the visitors but David Quirke turned Thomas McKeown’s shot over his own bar in the 48th minute.

By the 53rd minute, O’Mahonys were 0-7 to 0-12 in arrears. A Ross Geraghty point followed by a goal by sub David Dillon – who got on the end of a Cormac McGuinness delivery – cut the gap to the minimum. Brian Dillon leveled matters for the first time, in the 57th minute, setting up the dramatic finale.

O’Mahonys had Cormac McGuinness sent off in the 60th minute, before Regan’s sixth point secured a draw for the home side.
