By Club

O’Mahonys opened up their Junior Football Championship campaign with a solid nine point victory over Meath Hill.

O’Mahonys 3-10

Meath Hill 0-10

O’Mahonys got the better of the opening exchanges and put 2-3 on the board in the first quarter with no response from the Meath Hill men. However, Meathhill went on to dominate the remainder of the first half and the early part of the second half.

Meathhill responded with 3 unanswered points before the break to leave just two kicks of the ball between the sides at half time.

Meathhill started off the second half the stronger but O’Mahonys re-grouped and kept their own for the remainder of the game to come out nine-point victors. A clean sheet from David Quirke, solid defending from Damien Moran and Sean Keating’s goals up front were the difference between the two sides. It was also the first championship game Mark Ward has played following a long period of absence.
