Navan O’Mahonys 4-14, Wolfe Tones 1-4

Navan O’Mahonys produced another clinical display to cruise past Wolfe Tones on Wednesday night and move one step closer to the Division 3 final. The home side hit the ground running with a goal from Megan Collins inside 2 minutes. The Tones replied with a point almost immediately however it was the hoops who were in control. Points from Sarah Stanley (2), Helen Matthews (2) and a goal and a point from Amy Gillen inside the first quarter opened up a deserved 10 point lead. Both teams exchanged points moments later with Collins getting the point for the home side before Collins netted her second goal of the game to leave O’Mahonys going into the interval with a substantial lead. Half-time O’Mahonys 3-6 Wolfe Tones 0-2.

The hoops were playing with their tails up and continued the second-half how they finished the first. Points from Collins, Gillen and two from Laura Whelan had the confidence up before Whelan buried the ball into the back of the net after a great team move. The teams then exchanged points with Samantha Monaghan splitting the posts for the home side and further points from Aedin Murray (2) and Whelan finished the scoring for the winners. The Tones did grab a goal and a point in the final few minutes but it wasn’t enough to dampen the spirits of an O’Mahonys side who is unbeaten this season. For the hoops it means victory against Ratoath will see them into the Division 3 league final for the second time in 3 years.
