Ladies Footballers continue 100% success in Division 1 League

Navan O’Mahonys recorded their third win in Division 1 when they overcame a physical Na Fianna side in Navan on Sunday evening. With the aid of the strong wind in the second half, along with some heroic defending the brews hill side battled to the death to claim another excellent victory in their first attempt in the top flight.
Na Fianna stormed out of the blocks in the opening quarter and playing with the strong breeze they grabbed themselves three unanswered points. The hoops remained patient and midway through the opening half they got themselves on the scoreboard when Sarah Stanley split the posts. O’Mahonys then found themselves six points behind coming up to the interval with the opposition registering 4 points however the victors kicked a vital score when Shauna Nelson netted to leave only three between the teams at the break.

A free shortly after the restart for the away side opened the gap further between the teams however the hoops combined heroic defending and excellent goalkeeping to ensure that the opposition didn’t score again. Points from Stanley and Megan Collins followed by a goal from Aedin Murray established a well deserved lead for the home side who were playing with the aid of the strong wind. Goalkeeper Amanda Murtagh was called into action on a few occasions and some excellent saves ensured the home side remained in the lead. In the remaining ten minutes the hoops pushed on and Helen Mathews and Lauren Patterson pointed to give O’Mahonys a deserving three point victory.
