Navan O’Mahonys Under 14 Reserves Open Campaign

By Tomas Brady

Navan O’Mahony’s Under 14 Reserve team played their first competitive game of 2013 away against Ratoath on Saturday 2nd March.

Played in ideal conditions in Ratoath, Navan O’Mahonys got off to a very strong start and showing great skill and effort to go in at half time ahead by 5 points. Dara Keegan starred in goals and with the help of a very solid full back line ensured that there was no easy way through on goal. Cody Creighton at full back was very confident under the high ball and cleared the lines resolutely even under pressure.

Evan Coffey and Craig Munnelly worked hard at midfield for Navan O’Mahonys  for the entire game and with the able assistance of a very mobile and supportive half back line were able to gather much of the possession particularly in the first half.

Navan O’Mahonys forward lines were very sharp in possession and showed great teamwork right throughout the game. Some fantastic long range scores were taken and a determined approach when in on goal resulted in the O’Mahonys forward lines rattling the net on a number of occasions.

A resurgent Ratoath team took the game to O’Mahonys in the second half and over the course of the half managed to close the gap and to eventually run out as winners.

Despite not taking the points on the day it is clear that O’Mahonys Reserves have the ability to compete well in the league and no doubt are all looking forward to the next outing against Dunshaughlin on Saturday 9th March next.

Training continues on Wednesday evening at 6pm.
