Navan O’Mahonys made the most of the backing of the very strong wind at Trim on Sunday to secure an SFC Group C win over Moynalvey

Seven points from as many different scorers in the opening 13 minutes set the champions on their way in this round one fixture. Further points from Stephen and David Bray left it 0-9 to 0-0 after 18 minutes.
The first of three David McLoughlin points got Moynalvey off the mark in the 20th minute. A fine block by Darragh Maguire denied his immediate opponent a goal.
A brilliant Ruairi O Coileain goal was the highlight of the half for O’Mahonys, with David and Stephen Bray playing supporting roles.
O’Mahonys led by 1-11 to 0-2 at the break. From the restart Moynalvey set about eroding the deficit. Sub James Weldon pointed twice within five minutes of his introduction. Shane Lenehan’s 36th minute goal halved the interval deficit and the board read 1-11 to 1-5.
That was as good as it got for Moynalvey as O’Mahonys played a possession game to good efffect to secure the win.
Next up for O’Mahonys is a repeat of last year’s SFC final pairing with Na Fianna. Moynalvey take on Simonstown.
