Navan O’Mahonys completed Group A of the SFC with a big win over Walterstown at sunny Pairc Tailteann on Saturday evening

It was one-way traffic against understrength Walterstown from the off while three goals inside as many minutes before the break eased O’Mahonys to a 3-9 to 0-4 interval advantage.

Jake Regan fired in the first goal in the 26th minute was assistance from Paddy Smyth. Seconds later David Bray fisted the second after Walterstown full-back Stephen O’Keeffe blocked his initial effort.

Shane Gillespie fired in the third goal at the clubhouse end with the assistance of Jake Regan and Henry Finnegan as O’Mahonys moved 14 points clear by half-time.

O’Mahonys had other goal chances in the first-half: Finnegan was unfortunate to see his attempt sky over the bar while Darragh Maguire hit the crossbar with another effort.

The sides shared four scores within ten minutes of the resumption. Sub Stephen MacGabhann placed Paddy Smyth for the next score. Then Walterstown lost Christopher Reynolds to a straight red card with the board reading 3-12 to 0-6.

Alban Crosbie’s 50th minute goal was only the second conceded by O’Mahonys to date in the campaign. The immediate response from David Nelson’s men was a similar score by Stephen Bray.

By the end O’Mahonys had eight different scorers including four goalscorers. They closed out the hour with five unanswered points from four different players. Top scorer David Bray brought his tally to 1-5 from play with the final score of the game. .
